أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عِيسَى الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ الدَّامِغَانِيُّ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، ثنا نَافِعٌ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى قُبَاءَ يُصَلِّي فِيهِ قَالَ: فَجَاءَتْهُ الْأَنْصَارُ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ لِبِلَالٍ: كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ حِينَ كَانُوا يُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي؟ قَالَ: يَقُولُ: هَكَذَا، وَبَسَطَ كَفَّهُ وَبَسَطَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ كَفَّهُ وَجَعَلَ بَطْنَهُ أَسْفَلَ وَظَهْرَهُ إِلَى فَوْقَ ".
Nafi' narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to Quba' and prayed there. The Ansar began coming to him and greeting him with salam while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying. I asked Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): How did you see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reply to the greeting in prayer? He said: Like this, and he spread out his palm. Ja'far bin Awn spread out his palm, turning its inner side downwards and its back upwards.
