Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the mosque of Banu Amr bin Awf at Quba' to pray there. Men of the Ansar came to him and greeted him with salam. I asked Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him): "How did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reply to their greeting while in prayer?" Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "He used to gesture towards them with his hand." Sufyan said: I said to a man: "Ask him: Did you hear this from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)?" So he said: "O Abu Usamah! Did you hear this from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)?" He said: "Indeed, I have spoken with him and he has spoken with me," and Zayd did not say: I heard it from him.
