وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، قَالَا: ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ثنا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: أَرْسَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ مُنْطَلِقٌ إِلَى بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ فَكَلَّمْتُهُ، فَقَالَ لِي بِيَدِهِ: هَكَذَا وَأَوْمَأَ زُهَيْرٌ بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ كَلَّمْتُهُ، فَقَالَ لِي: هَكَذَا وَأَوْمَأَ زُهَيْرٌ أَيْضًا بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ الْأَرْضِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُهُ يَقْرَأُ يُومِئُ بِرَأْسِهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ: " مَا فَعَلْتَ فِي الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتُكَ لَهُ؟ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أُكَلِّمَكَ إِلَّا أَنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي " قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ وَأَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ جَالِسٌ مَعَهُ: مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْكَعْبَةِ، فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ إِلَى بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ، فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى غَيْرِ الْكَعْبَةِ رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يُونُسَ.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on an errand while he was going to Banu al-Mustaliq. When I came back (from the errand), I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying on his camel. I wanted to speak to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand. The narrator says: Zuhayr gestured with his hand to show it. I spoke again, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to me like this, and Zuhayr likewise gestured with his hand towards the ground. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I could hear him: he (peace and blessings be upon him) was reciting and gesturing with his head. When he had finished, he said: "What did you do about the task I sent you for? Nothing prevented me from speaking to you except that I was in prayer." Zuhayr said: Abu al-Zubayr, who was sitting with him facing the qiblah, pointed with his hand towards Banu al-Mustaliq, that is, he pointed with his hand towards a direction other than the qiblah.
