أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْقَاضِي، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبُ الْقَاضِي ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ الَّذِي يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ مِنَ الْخُيَلَاءِ لَا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ بِالنِّسَاءِ؟ قَالَ: " شِبْرٌ " قَالَتْ: إِذَا تَخْرُجُ سُوقُهُنَّ أَوْ قَالَتْ: أَقْدَامُهُنَّ " قَالَ: " فَذِرَاعٌ وَلَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever lets his garment hang down and trails it out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him (with mercy) on the Day of Resurrection." Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the ruling for women? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A hand span." She said: Then their shins will show, or she said: their feet will show? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let them make it a forearm's length, and not go beyond it."
