(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr al-Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him) that I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I resolved in my heart that I would watch how he (peace and blessings be upon him) prays. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood facing the qiblah and said the takbir, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands up to the level of his shoulders. Then he bowed and placed his hands on his knees; then, when he raised his head from bowing, he again raised both his hands up to the level of his shoulders. Then, when he prostrated, he placed his face between his hands in that position; then he mentioned the complete hadith.
Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad narrates it from Asim in the same way, that is, that he raised his hands up to the level of his shoulders.
[Weak with this wording, but its meaning is established as sahih in Muslim.]
(b) Sufyan bin Uyaynah also agreed with him regarding the raising of the hands, and Bishr bin al-Mufaddal and others narrate from Asim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands to the level of his ears, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated he placed his head between his hands.
