It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr al-Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him): I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I thought to myself: Let me see how he (peace and blessings be upon him) performs the prayer. (So I began watching.) He (peace and blessings be upon him) faced the qiblah, said the takbir and raised both hands until he brought them up to his shoulders. Then he held his left hand with his right hand. Then, when he wanted to bow, he raised his hands level with his shoulders, and when he bowed he placed his hands on his knees. When he was about to rise from the bowing, he raised his hands up to his shoulders. Then, when he prostrated, he placed his hands in the place level with his face. After that, when he sat (for the sitting), he spread out his left leg, placed his left hand on his left thigh, and placed the edge of his right elbow on his right thigh. Then he closed two fingers, made a ring with the middle finger and the thumb, and pointed with the index finger.
In one narration the ears are mentioned instead of the shoulders.
