أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: " فِي كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ قِرَاءَةٌ فَمَا أَسْمَعَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْمَعْنَاكُمْ وَمَا أَخْفَى أَخْفَيْنَاهُ مِنْكُمْ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَزِدْ عَلَى أُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ؟ قَالَ: إِنْ زِدْتَ عَلَيْهَا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ، وَإِنِ انْتَهَيْتَ عَلَيْهَا أَجْزَأَتْ عَنْكَ " رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ مُسَدَّدٍ.
It is narrated from Ata that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Recitation is to be done in every prayer." What the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) let us hear, we have let you hear, and what was kept hidden from us, we have kept hidden from you as well. A man said: What is your view if I do not recite more than Surah al-Fatihah? He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you recite more than it, that is better, and if you suffice with it, that is also enough.
