أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْقَطَّانُ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْهِلَالِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي نَعَامَةَ الْحَنَفِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ لَا يَقْرَءُونَ، يَعْنِي لَا يَجْهَرُونَ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " كَذَا فِي الْحَدِيثِ وَرَوَاهُ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ وَقَالَ: لَا يَجْهَرُونَ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ: لَا يَقْرَءُونَ، وَأَبُو نَعَامَةَ قَيْسُ بْنُ عَبَايَةَ لَمْ يَحْتَجَّ بِهِ الشَّيْخَانُ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ ".
(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not recite 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' [Surah al-Fatihah: 1] aloud.
(b) Al-Husayn bin Hafs narrated this hadith from Sufyan, and he said: instead of 'la yaqra'un' (they did not recite), the word is 'la yajharun' (they did not recite aloud).
Abu Na'amah Qays bin Abayah: the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not use him as evidence.
