(a) It is narrated from Qatadah: I heard Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them), but I did not hear any of them recite 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' [Surah al-Fatihah: 1] aloud.
(b) Through another chain, in the narration of Shu'bah, Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I did not hear any of them reciting 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' [Surah al-Fatihah: 1].
(c) In one narration it says that they did not recite 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' [Surah al-Fatihah: 1] aloud.
In a third narration the words are 'fa-lam yakunu yajharun' (so they would not recite aloud), and in another narration it says that they used to begin the recitation with 'All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds' [Surah al-Fatihah: 2].
