أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ، ثنا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ صَاحِبِ الْمَقْصُورَةِ قَالَ: صَلَّيْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ: هَلْ تَدْرِي لِمَ صُنِعَ هَذَا الْعُودُ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا وَاللهِ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضَعُ عَلَيْهِ يَدَهُ فَيَقُولُ: " اسْتَوُوا اعْدِلُوا صُفُوفَكُمْ ".
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Muslim that he said: One day I prayed beside Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said to me: "Do you know why this piece of wood has been placed here?" I said: "By Allah, I do not know." He said: "the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to place his hand on it and say: 'Istawu, i'dilu sufufakum' (Be level (straighten up), straighten your rows).'"
