(a) It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Harith that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, or (he said) was away, so Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) led the prayer. He said the takbir aloud when he began the prayer, when he bowed, after saying 'Sami' Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), when he raised his head from prostration, when he prostrated, when he rose, and when he stood up after the two rak'ahs, until he completed his prayer in this manner. When he finished, someone said to him: The people have differed about your prayer. So he (may Allah be pleased with him) went out until he stood at the pulpit and said: O people! By Allah, I do not care whether your prayer differs or not; I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying like this.
(b) It is reported from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he led the people in prayer, he would say the takbir aloud.
