Ikrimah bin Khalid (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I was present with Abd al-Malik bin Marwan (may Allah have mercy on him) when a dispute about the children of a mudabbarah was brought to him, and he consulted those around him. One man said: "Her children are to be sold, because a man gives date palms in charity yet eats their fruit." Another contradicted what he said, saying: "The children of a mudabbarah have their mother's status; sometimes a man offers a camel as a sacrifice and it is about to give birth, so he slaughters its young along with it." Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: He stood up and gave no ruling.
