Bayhaqi 21303 — A man taking his due from one who withholds

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Render the trust to the one who considers you trustworthy, and do not betray anyone who betrays you." Abu al-Fadl said: I said to Talq: Shall I write (the name of) Sharik and leave out Qays? He said: You know best.
The first hadith has the ruling of munqati' (broken chain), since Yusuf bin Mahak did not name the one who narrated to him, nor the one from whom his narrator narrated. The hadith of Abu Husayn was narrated from him only by Sharik al-Qadi and Qays bin al-Rabi'; Qays is da'if (weak), and most of the scholars of hadith did not use Sharik as evidence; Muslim bin al-Hajjaj mentioned him only among the supporting narrations (shawahid). It was also narrated from Abu Hafs al-Dimashqi, from Makhul, from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and this is weak, because Makhul did not hear anything from Abu Umamah, and this Abu Hafs al-Dimashqi is majhul (unknown). It was also narrated from al-Hasan, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is munqati' (broken).
