It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a group of the Companions passed by one of the Arab tribes, and a man stung by a scorpion, or one badly wounded, was brought to them. They asked: Is there anyone among you who performs ruqyah? There is someone stung by a scorpion at the water, or he said: he is badly wounded. A man from among them got up and performed ruqyah on him in return for some sheep, and he recovered. When he came to his companions, they disliked it and said: You have taken a wage for the Book of Allah. When they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), they informed him of it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most deserving thing for which you take a wage is the Book of Allah."
(b) In the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) there is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him when he had completed the adhan and gave him a purse containing some silver.
