أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ الْوَرَّاقُ، وَجَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَا: ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا يَقُولُ: بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْثًا، وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ، فَطَعَنَ النَّاسُ فِي إِمْرَتِهِ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: " إِنْ تَطْعَنُوا فِي إِمْرَتِهِ، فَقَدْ كُنْتُمْ تَطْعَنُونَ فِي إِمْرَةِ أَبِيهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ، وَايْمُ اللهِ، إِنْ كَانَ لَخَلِيقًا لِلْإِمَارَةِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ لَمِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلِيَّ، وَإِنَّ هَذَا مِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلِيَّ بَعْدَهُ ". رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ قُتَيْبَةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَحْيَى وَغَيْرِهِ.
Abdullah bin Dinar heard Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out an army and appointed Usamah bin Zayd as its commander. People criticised his command, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you criticise his command, you already criticised the command of his father before. By Allah, he (his father) was worthy of command, and he was among the most beloved of people to me, and this one is among the most beloved of people to me after him."
