Bayhaqi 19847 — Whoever swears an oath and then sees something better

Abu Hazim narrates from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man stayed late with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he returned to his home and found that his children had fallen asleep. His wife presented food, and he swore, because of his children, that he would not eat. But later he ate. Then they mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears an oath and something else is better than it, let him do it and give the expiation for his oath."
