أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ، أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الضَّبُعِيُّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَخِي، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ عَلَى نَاسٍ مِنْ أَسْلَمَ يَتَنَاضَلُونَ، قَالَ: " حَسَنٌ لَهَذَا اللهْوُ - مَرَّتَيْنِ - ارْمُوا، فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ لَكُمْ أَبٌ يَرْمِي، ارْمُوا، وَأَنَا مَعَ ابْنِ الْأَدْرَعِ "، قَالَ: فَأَمْسَكَ الْقَوْمُ أَيْدِيَهُمْ، فَقَالَ: " مَالَكُمْ؟ "، فَقَالُوا: لَا وَاللهِ، لَا نَرْمِي، وَأَنْتَ مَعَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِذًا يُنَضِلُنَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " ارْمُوا وَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ جَمِيعًا "، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: رَمَوْا عَامَّةَ يَوْمِهِمْ، ثُمَّ تَفَرَّقُوا عَلَى السَّوَاءِ مَا نَضِلَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا ".
Muhammad bin Iyas bin Salamah bin al-Akwa' narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa', may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people of the tribe of Aslam while they were practising archery. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is good" (he said it twice), "shoot, for your father too was an archer. Shoot, and I am with Ibn al-Adra'." So the people held back their hands. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "We will not shoot while you (peace and blessings be upon him) are with so-and-so." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shoot, I am with all of you." The narrator said: They shot for most of that day, then they parted even, none of them having beaten the other.
