Bayhaqi 19646 — The prohibition of consuming another's property

A freed slave of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We were with Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) when we came to an orchard of date palms. Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) gave us two dirhams so that we could buy fodder and dates, but I found no one at all in the orchard. I came back and told him, and he said: If it would please you to be a true believer, then do not eat a single date from the palms. So we and our donkey spent the night hungry.
