Al-Rabi' says: I asked Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) about ruqyah, and he said: "There is no harm in a man performing ruqyah with the Book of Allah and the well-known remembrance of Allah." I asked: May the People of the Book perform ruqyah over Muslims? He said: "When they perform ruqyah with the Book of Allah or the remembrance of Allah, it is permissible." I asked: What is the proof for this? He said: There is more than one proof; and the narration of our companion and yours is that Amrah bint Abd al-Rahman says that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) while she was ill and a Jewish woman was performing ruqyah over her, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Perform ruqyah over her with the Book of Allah."
The Shaykh said: There are many hadiths stating that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ruqyah and had ruqyah performed over him, and concerning the treatments he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered.
