أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَامِدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي خَلَفِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الصُّوفِيُّ الْإِسْفِرَايِينِيُّ بِهَا، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزْدَادَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، أنبأ سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ: قَدِمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُهَاجِرًا وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ التَّمْرُ فَقَالَ: " تَعَالَ كُلْ ". قَالَ: فَجَعَلْتُ آكُلُ التَّمْرَ، قَالَ: " تَأْكُلُ التَّمْرَ وَبِكَ رَمَدٌ؟ " قَالَ: قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أَمْضُغُهُ مِنْ نَاحِيَةٍ أُخْرَى. قَالَ: فَتَبَسَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Abd al-Hamid bin Ziyad bin Suhayb narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather (Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him)), that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as an emigrant, and dates were placed before him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come and eat." He says: I began to eat the dates, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you eating dates while your eyes are sore?" He says: I said: "I am chewing on the other side." The narrator says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled.
