Bayhaqi 19175 — Sending blessings upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ، أَنْبَأَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ: وَالتَّسْمِيَةُ عَلَى الذَّبِيحَةِ: بِسْمِ اللهِ، فَإِنْ زَادَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللهِ فَالزِّيَادَةُ خَيْرٌ، وَلَا أَكْرَهُ مَعَ تَسْمِيَتِهِ عَلَى الذَّبِيحَةِ أَنْ يَقُولَ صَلَّى الله عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ، بَلْ أُحِبُّهُ لَهُ وَأُحِبُّ إِلَيَّ أَنْ يُكْثِرَ الصَّلَاةَ عَلَيْهِ، فَصَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ فِي كُلِّ الْحَالِاتِ؛ لِأَنَّ ذِكْرَ اللهِ وَالصَّلَاةَ عَلَيْهِ إِيمَانٌ بِاللهِ وَعِبَادَةٌ لَهُ يُؤْجَرُ عَلَيْهَا إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ مَنْ قَالَهَا، وَقَدْ ذَكَرَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ..
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The tasmiyah when slaughtering an animal is 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah); if one adds something of the remembrance of Allah after that, the addition is good. And regarding sending blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while slaughtering an animal, he said: I like this too; indeed, sending blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in all circumstances is even better, because the remembrance of Allah and sending blessings upon him (peace and blessings be upon him) are worship, and the one who says them is rewarded.
