Bayhaqi 18690 — Reports on hospitality being three days
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: قُرِئَ عَلَى الْحَارِثِ بْنِ مِسْكِينٍ وَأَنَا شَاهِدٌ، حَدَّثَكُمْ أَشْهَبُ، قَالَ: وَسُئِلَ مَالِكٌ عَنْ قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " جَائِزَتُهُ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ ". قَالَ: يُكْرِمُهُ وَيُتْحِفُهُ وَيَحْفَظُهُ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً، وَثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ضِيَافَةً.
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A day and a night is hospitality," and he said: For a day and a night he should honour him, give him gifts and look after him, and hospitality is for three days.
