Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Abdullah bin Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him), who among his sons used to lead Ka'b after he became blind, said: I heard Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate the story of his staying behind from the Battle of Tabuk and of his repentance, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed him and his two companions that their repentance had been accepted. He said: I heard someone calling out loudly on Mount Sal', saying: O Ka'b bin Malik, rejoice! He said: I fell down in prostration and knew that the days of relief had come. When the caller came to me, giving me the good news, I took off my garments and gave them to him, for apart from them I owned nothing else that day, and I borrowed two garments and put them on. Then I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
