أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، أنبأ ⦗٢٩٢⦘ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا آدَمُ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، ثنا أَبُو الْفَيْضِ، رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جَابِرٍ الرُّعَيْنِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ شَيَّعَ جَيْشًا فَمَشَى مَعَهُمْ فَقَالَ: " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي اغْبَرَّتْ أَقْدَامُنَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ". فَقِيلَ لَهُ: وَكَيْفَ اغْبَرَّتْ وَإِنَّمَا شَيَّعْنَاهُمْ؟ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّا جَهَّزْنَاهُمْ وَشَيَّعْنَاهُمْ وَدَعَوْنَا لَهُمْ ".
Sa'id bin Jabir narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), while bidding farewell to an army, walked with them and said: All praise is for the One who has made our feet dusty in His path. It was said to him: How have our feet become dusty in the path of Allah, when we have only seen them off? He said: We equipped them, saw them off and prayed for them.
