Abd al-Rahman bin Shimasah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I went to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she asked: Which people are you from? I said: I am an Egyptian. She asked: How did you find Ibn Hudayj in your campaigns? I said: He is a good commander. Whoever loses a horse or a camel in battle, he compensates him with a camel; and if someone's slave is lost (killed), he gives him a slave in exchange. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: His killing my brother does not prevent me from narrating the hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'Allahumma man waliya min amri ummati shay'an fashaqqa 'alayhim fashquq 'alayh, wa man waliya min amri ummati shay'an farafaqa bihim farfuq bih' (O Allah, whoever takes charge of the affairs of the Muslims and is gentle with them in whatever way possible, O Allah, be gentle with him; and whoever becomes a cause of hardship for them, O Allah, bring hardship upon him).
