Abu Majza'ah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Whoever has committed a sin, let him come to us and we will purify him. A group of people came and he beat them. Then Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) came in anger and said: Has Allah entrusted to you any part of repentance? He said: No. He said: Then throw away the whip, and do not tear open a veil that Allah has drawn. Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said that something was stolen from Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him); the thief was caught, but he (may Allah be pleased with him) let him go. He also said that a thief who had stolen from a freedwoman of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was brought to him, and he (may Allah be pleased with them both) gave him provisions and let him go.
