It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man who had been drinking was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beat him." So some of us struck him with the hand, some with the sandal and some with the garment. When he turned to leave, some of the people said to him: May Allah disgrace you. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not say this, and do not help Satan against him; rather, say: 'Allahumma irhamhu' (O Allah, have mercy on him)."
