It is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a thief who had stolen a cloak was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). They said: This man has stolen. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think he stole." He said: Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah, I did steal it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take him away and cut off his hand, then cauterize it, then bring him to me." He was brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Repent to Allah." He said: I have repented to Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah accept your repentance."
