Bayhaqi 17167 — What requires amputation

It is reported from Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man stole a cup and was brought to Umar bin Abd al-Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him). Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him) said: My father said: His hand will not be cut off for a trivial thing. Then he said: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me: "In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a thief's hand was not cut off for less than the price of a shield, a hajafah or a turs."
