Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: A noble woman of Quraysh, who was from Banu Makhzum, committed theft, and they said: "Who will speak to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about her?" Then they said: "Only Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) has the courage for this, because he is the beloved of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)." When Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) interceded, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you intercede concerning one of the limits (hudud) of Allah, O Usamah?" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and delivered a sermon, saying: "O people! What destroyed those before you was this: when a person of high standing among them stole, they would let him go, and when a weak person stole, they would carry out the prescribed punishment on him. By Allah! If Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), were to steal, I would cut off her hand too."
