Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Why do you ask the People of the Book about anything, when your Book, which Allah revealed to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), is the newest of tidings, which you recite pure and unadulterated? Has Allah not told you in His Book that they distorted the Book of Allah and changed it, and "So woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, then say, 'This is from Allah,' in order to exchange it for a small price" [Surah al-Baqarah: 79] — that they wrote with their own hands and said, "This is the Book of Allah," so that they might gain a small price for it? Let the knowledge that has come to you stop you from asking them. By Allah! We have never seen a man from among them asking you about what Allah has revealed to you.
