Ibn Abi al-Zinad relates from his father (Abu al-Zinad) (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in Badr and challenged his father Utbah to single combat, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prevented him. Muhammad bin Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in the Battle of Badr on the side of the polytheists and called for single combat, so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up (to face him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Let us benefit from your life." Later, Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam around (the time of) Hudaybiyah.
