Bayhaqi 16632 — The sin of betraying a righteous or a wicked person

Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Mu'awiyah sent one hundred thousand dirhams to Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). When Mu'awiyah called (the people) to the pledge of allegiance to Yazid bin Mu'awiyah, he (Ibn Umar) said: "Do you think this is what he intended? Then my religion would indeed be cheap to me." Someone else added in it: When Mu'awiyah died and the people agreed upon Yazid, he pledged allegiance to him.
