Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (through a man whom Abd al-Razzaq named Amr bin Barq): "A woman's blood money is paid by her paternal kin ('asabah), who take only what remains (after her heirs)."
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) placed the blood money for the freed slaves of Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her) upon Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and declared Sayyiduna Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), who was her son, entitled to their inheritance.
