Bayhaqi 15839 — Killing children
قَالَ اللهُ جَلَّ ثَنَاؤُهُ: {وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ مِنْ إِمْلَاقٍ نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُكُمْ وَإِيَّاهُمْ} [الأنعام: 151] وَقَالَ: {وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ بِأِيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْ} وَقَالَ: {قَدْ خَسِرَ الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوا أَوْلَادَهُمْ سَفَهًا بِغَيْرِ عَلِمٍ} [الأنعام: 140].
Allah, exalted be His praise, says: 'And do not kill your children out of poverty; We provide for you and for them.' [Surah al-An'am: 151]
And He said: 'And when the girl buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed.' [Surah al-Takwir: 8-9]
And He said: 'Those have certainly lost who killed their children in foolishness, without knowledge.' [Surah al-An'am: 140]

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنبأ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيَّ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ⦗٣٣⦘ قُلْتُ: أِيُّ الْكَبَائِرِ أَكْبَرُ؟ قَالَ: " أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ ". قُلْتُ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: " أَنْ تُقْتَلَ وَلَدِكَ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مَعَكَ ".
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which are the major sins, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you associate partners with Allah though He is your Creator." I asked: Then which? He said: "To kill your child for fear of provision."
