Abu Suhayl narrates from his father that he said: I heard Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) saying in a sermon: "Do not burden children with earning, for if you burden them with it they will steal. And do not set a slave-girl who knows no craft to earning, for then she will earn with her private parts." In the narration of Ibn Abi Uways these words are additional: "Keep (them) chaste, since Allah has kept you chaste, and hold to the foods that are pure (lawful)."
Some narrated it from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet) through the hadith of al-Thawri, but its attribution to the Prophet is weak.
