أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ أَبِي اللَّيْثِ حَدَّثَهُمْ، نا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَحْتَ الزُّبَيْرِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَجَاءَتْهُ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَقَالَتْ: إِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ تَطِيبَ نَفْسِي بِتَطْلِيقَةٍ فَفَعَلَ وَهِيَ حَامِلٌ فَذَهَبَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَجَاءَ وَقَدْ وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ مَا صَنَعَ فَقَالَ: " بَلَغَ الْكِتَابُ أَجَلَهُ فَاخْطُبْهَا إِلَى نَفْسِهَا "، فَقَالَ خَدَعَتْنِي خَدَعَهَا اللهُ وَرُوِيَ ذَلِكَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ الرَّقِّيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ، وَرُوِيَ فِي مَعْنَاهُ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا.
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she was married to Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him). She came to him while he was performing ablution and said: I would like you to set my mind at ease with one divorce. So he divorced her while she was pregnant. He went to the mosque, and when he came back she had already delivered what was in her womb. So he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned what had happened. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The prescribed term has reached its end (that is, her waiting period has ended); so propose marriage to her for herself." He said: She deceived me; may Allah deceive her.
