Bayhaqi 15154 — Reports on the saying of Allah the Mighty

Chapter: What has come concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And when you divorce women and they reach (near) their term, then retain them according to what is acceptable or release them according to what is acceptable, and do not retain them to harm them." [Surah al-Baqarah: 231]
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says concerning this verse: When their term is close to completion, then take them back in a good manner or leave them so that their iddah is completed; and He has forbidden retaining them with the intention of causing harm, so no one should retain them for that purpose.
