Abd al-Malik bin Qudamah al-Jumahi narrates from his father, who narrates this incident from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), except that (in this version) when the matter was brought to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) separated the woman from the man. Abu Ubayd (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the opposite of this is also reported from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
(b) Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them), Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) and Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umayr (may Allah have mercy on him) all said: This divorce is not valid.
Al-Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The first narration is more likely to be correct.
