أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُزَكِّي، نا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أنا الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَأَتَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ وَعَيْنَاهُ تَدْمَعَانِ فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ: مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ فَقَالَ: " مَلَّكْتُ امْرَأَتِي أَمْرَهَا فَفَارَقَتْنِي "، فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدٌ: مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ؟ فَقَالَ: الْقَدَرُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدٌ: " ارْتَجِعْهَا إِنْ شِئْتَ فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ وَاحِدَةٌ، وَأَنْتَ أَمْلَكُ بِهَا ".
Kharijah bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he was sitting with Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) when Muhammad bin Abi Atiq came to him weeping. Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What is the matter with you? He said: I made my wife the owner of my authority (over her), and she separated from me. Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What led you to do that? He said: Fate. Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Take her back if you wish; it is one divorce, and you have the right over the woman.
