Abd al-Rahman bin Ayman asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), while Abu al-Zubayr was listening: What is your view about a man who divorced his wife while she was menstruating? He said: Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) divorced his wife while she was menstruating in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), saying that Abdullah bin Umar had divorced his wife while she was menstruating. Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: He (peace and blessings be upon him) returned her to me and did not consider it anything, and said: "After she becomes pure, let him divorce or keep her." Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "O Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them for their waiting period" [Surah al-Talaq: 1], meaning: at the start of their waiting period.
(b) Ibn Jurayj says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let him take her back," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned his wife to him.
(c) Abd al-Razzaq says that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Take her back," and returned my wife to me.
