Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) fell to the share of Sayyiduna Dihyah al-Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him). The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) praised Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) greatly before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: We have never seen a woman or a captive like her. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Sayyiduna Dihyah al-Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him) something, as much as he was pleased with, and handed Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) over to Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), and said: "Prepare her." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from Khaybar, he seated her behind him on his mount. Then a tent was pitched for him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then in the morning he said: "Whoever has provisions, let him bring them to us." So one brought dates, another sawiq (barley meal), and another ghee, and they prepared a large amount of hays (a sweet dish). After eating, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) drank rainwater. This was the wedding feast (walimah) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on his marriage to Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: We saw a wedding feast of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in which there was neither bread nor meat. Then he would mention this hadith.
