Ibn Muhayriz said: I entered the mosque and saw Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). I sat down near him and asked him about 'azl. Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the expedition against Banu al-Mustaliq, and we took captive women from among the Arabs. We desired women, having been away from women for a long time, and we also wanted ransom, so we intended to practise 'azl. Then we said: "(Shall we do this) while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is present among us, without asking him?" So we did ask him about it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is it with you that you do this? Every soul that is to come into being until the Day of Resurrection will certainly come into being."
