Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the husband of Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a slave who was called Mughith. He is going around behind Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her), weeping, with his tears flowing down his beard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): "Are you not amazed at the love Mughith has for Barirah, and at Barirah's dislike of Mughith?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "If only you would go back to him, for he is the father of your children." She said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Are you commanding me? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am only interceding." She said: Then I have no need of him.
