Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the husband of Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a black slave named Mughith. He said: I can see him following Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) through the streets of Madinah, shedding tears. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave four rulings concerning her: (1) the wala' belongs to the one who sets free; (2) he gave Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) the choice; (3) he ordered her to observe the waiting period (iddah); (4) meat was given in charity to Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her), which she gave as a gift to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For her it is charity, and for us it is a gift."
(b) Abu al-Walid narrates briefly from Shu'bah and Hammam: I saw the husband of Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) as a slave.
