Bayhaqi 13880 — Evidence that the verse is restricted to the occasion

Sa'id bin Abi al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) came out to the two of them with water dripping from his head, though he had told them that he was fasting. He said: "It was a voluntary good deed that I had intended, and I will make it up another day. I saw a slave-woman of mine who pleased me, so I had intercourse with her." He said: "I will tell you more: she had committed zina, and I wanted to make her chaste."
(b) Abu Mijlaz (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Know that Allah Almighty accepts the repentance of the two of them together just as He accepts it from them when they are apart.
(c) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If their repentance together would not benefit them, it would not benefit them apart either; and he recited this verse: "Allah is the One who accepts repentance from His servants." [Surah al-Tawbah: 104]
