Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me when I was 6 years old. We came to Madinah and stayed with Banu al-Harith bin al-Khazraj. I fell ill with fever and my hair fell out; then it grew back down to my shoulders. My mother, Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her), came while I was on a swing with my friends. She called me and I came to her, not knowing what she wanted. She took hold of me and made me stand at the door of the house, and I was out of breath from exhaustion. Then she took a little water and wiped it over my head and face. Then she took me into the house. There in the house were women of the Ansar. They said: 'Ala al-khayri wal-barakah, wa 'ala khayri ta'ir' (Upon goodness and blessing, and upon the best fortune). Then my mother handed me over to them, and they made me ready. Then, at forenoon (duha), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appeared before me, and those women handed me over to him (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time I was nine years old.
