When a proposal of marriage came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for one of his daughters, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would come behind the curtain and say: "So-and-so (a man) wishes to marry so-and-so (a woman)." If she spoke against him, he would not marry her (to him), and if she did not speak against him, he would marry her (to him).
Abu al-Asbat al-Harithi narrated it thus, and it is not mahfuz (preserved); what is preserved from the narration of Yahya is mursal.
