Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a group of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and asked his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives about his (peace and blessings be upon him) private worship. Then some said: "I will not marry women," some said: "I will never eat meat," some said: "I will never lie down on a bed," and some said: "I will always fast and never break my fast." This reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, and praised and extolled Allah. Then he said: "What is the matter with people who say such and such things? But I pray and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I have married women. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of us."
