Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Peace be upon you, O young man of Banu Abd al-Muttalib!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Wa 'alayk' "And upon you too be peace." He said: "I am one of your maternal relatives, from the descendants of Sa'd bin Bakr, and I am the representative and delegate of my people." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith, including these words: "We found in your letter, and your messengers ordered us, that we take from the surplus of our wealth and spend it on our poor. I ask you by Allah: did He command you to do this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."
The Shaykh said: These words, if they are preserved, indicate that the owner of wealth may distribute the zakah of his wealth himself. And in the hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about this same story, the words are: "Did Allah Almighty command you to take this sadaqah from our rich and distribute it among our poor?" Its chain is more authentic. And Allah knows best.
